I only meant to take a few pictures, honestly.
I have been relying on my phone’s camera too much lately, so today I got out my real camera just to get a few shots of my son.
It’s been one of those weeks where I can practically see him changing before my eyes. I can see him growing taller. His behavior is less immature and more and more like a pre-schooler. His features are maturing as well, and when I look at his soft profile I can get a glimpse of the older boy he will be one day. And I wanted to stop time the only way I know how- by taking pictures. So I snapped a few shots of him downstairs where the afternoon light was pretty and warm.
Then I put my camera away. But a few minutes later he was playing and I took it out again to get a few more… and by the time bath time rolled around I had a big collection of shots. And I love them. Just an ordinary afternoon- doing ordinary little boy things. The ordinary things that I know I will have trouble remembering in six months, a year, ten years… and that’s why I treasure these images more than the perfectly lit, perfectly styled, perfectly posed ones.
