If you’re like most people in large families, you know how hard it can be to get every member of the family together in one spot, in color coordinated clothing no less, for a big family portrait. Now imagine making the whole thing a surprise . That’s exactly what these siblings did for their mother’s birthday. That’s not all though- during the session, two of the daughters had an additional surprise planned. When I started photographing one of the couples, they suddenly took out a small chalkboard sign that they wanted to use in a portrait- and written on it were the words “coming soon”. After the ensuing shrieks, hugs, and tears, we continued with their portraits. Then, I was about to start photographing the second couple when they took the chalkboard sign and told everyone that they needed the sign too. The reactions from all around were priceless and everyone was crying (I teared up too). I have no doubt that this lucky mother will remember this birthday gift forever! I know I will always remember this very special portrait session.
This session was a classic case of the little girl loving the camera while her brother.. preferred to be elsewhere. He still participated like a champ though, and stayed calm while his sister hammed it up for the camera, dancing, twirling, running, and laughing until the end. Beautiful family!
I’ve been photographing these kids for a couple of years now, and they never fail to bring tons of cuteness, personality, joy, and charm to every single portrait session. These images remind me of carefree summer days…
Many times I’ve said that my favorite time of year to photograph outdoor sessions is fall. You know, mainly because of the gorgeous colors of the foliage. But honestly, the time of year I prefer to BE outdoors is summer. I’m a summer person. I need to be outside for at least some of my day-it helps me relax and breathe easier. I absolutely love the rise and fall singsong of the crickets, the smell of grass and leaves and dirt, and the way the world is just so green. So obviously, when I met my client at Bear Mountain Park and took a look around, I knew I was going to enjoy the session immensely. The fact that the upsherin boy had gorgeous red curls- that was just the icing on the cake. Although it was pretty crowded, the views were amazing and there were so many awesome spots we used throughout the entire session. I hope these upsherin portraits capture a little of that summer magic along with the wide eyed wonder of childhood!
When you photograph newborns and a perfectly adorable, chubby, and extra sleepy baby comes your way, its like winning the lottery. This little one was just amazing and I love all the color and florals we incorporated into her portrait session.
